First, Jonathan Capehart wrote a brave column on how “Hands Up, Don’t Shoot” was built on a lie, then the Washington Post Fact Checker wrote the same thing and now the public editor of the New York Times has conceded that she shouldn’t have questioned a Times report last summer noting the doubts about the Hands Up narrative. This is all to the good, and congratulations especially to Capehart, but there are too many supposedly responsible people who gave credence to this lie, even when the best evidence pointed the other way.
