Man Arrested for Firing Warning Shots: ‘I Did What Joe Biden Told Me to Do’

A man in Washington State charged with illegal aiming or discharging of a firearm says he was just following Vice President Joe Biden’s instructions.

Jefferey Barton claims that he fired his weapon in order to scare off a group of people who were attempting to break into his vehicles. “I did what Joe Biden told me to do,” Barton told KOIN. “I went outside and fired my shotgun in the air.”

Biden advised a woman in an online town hall in February to “buy a shotgun” for self-defense purposes. He elaborated on how he had instructed his wife to handle herself if she felt unsafe in their Delaware home. “I said, ‘Jill, if there’s ever a problem, just walk out on the balcony here, walk out and put that double-barrel shotgun and fire two blasts outside the house.”

The sheriff’s deputies in Vancouver, Wa., told KOIN that “current law does not afford people the right to just fire off their gun” unless they are acting in self-defense or in a life-threatening situation.

He is one of the leading classical liberals in Italy -- the director general of the Bruno Leoni Institute, in Milan. (Mingardi himself is Milanese.) He is also an authority in arts and letters. In ... Read More

Putin and the Cult of Leadership

On Sunday, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin won an unsurprising reelection-campaign victory against Communist Party candidate Pavel Grudinin, by a margin of 76.7 percent to 11.8 percent. The results were unsurprising because Putin is a tyrant who murders or imprisons political rivals, and who isn’t afraid to use ... Read More

Trump and Brexit Derangement Syndrome

I am not one of those Brexiteers who believe that Brexit and Trumpism are essentially the same phenomenon in two different countries. To be sure, they both draw on some of the same political trends, notably a distrust of elites and an upsurge of popular anger over evident failures of public policy such as illegal ... Read More
