Danville, Ky. — When they were negotiating the veep debate’s format, Ryan insiders pushed to make it a sit-down affair. Ryan has rarely participated in lengthy podium debates, and his aides knew that he’d be more comfortable in a chair. At a table, Ryan is able to lower his voice and converse, instead of raising his volume and projecting. Ryan much prefers the former, due to his many appearances on Sunday talk shows and his budget-committee work.
