Senator Joe Manchin isn’t scared of the National Rifle Association’s new ads attacking him and will continue to push gun-control legislation in the Senate, even if it costs him his seat. He explained that opponents of his legislation are “afraid to engage” because of the NRA’s influence, but said that he wasn’t.
“What’s my consolation? The worst they can do is defeat me and send me home to my family and the state that I love, West Virginia,” Manchin said on Morning Joe today. “That’s a pretty good consolation.”
“What’re we afraid of?” he asked.
The NRA began airing an ad targeting Manchin this week, which links him with President Obama and New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg. The senator countered with an ad of his own, which was unveiled on Morning Joe this morning, declaring his support for the Second Amendment and his independence from the NRA.
“If that’s a sacrifice I have to pay as a politician — not to get reelected — because of that, that’s the smallest price I can pay,” he continued, especially if “we can save one child.”
“I’d do it every day.”
