For awhile now, the Left has been sore about “No Child Left Behind” and they’re mobilizing [from a press release, below]:
EDELMAN KICKS-OFF MAJOR VOTER MOBILIZATION EFFORT
Faith Community Responds to the Most Dangerous Time for Children
NEW YORK – Children’s Defense Fund President Marian Wright Edelman today
announced plans to lead a major mobilization around the fall elections
targeting citizens committed to their faith and the movement to Leave No
Child Behind*, following a rousing sermon to thousands gathered at
Harlem’s Riverside Church in New York City.
Edelman said the Bush Administration co-opted CDF’s trademarked words
“Leave No Child Behind*” and used them, or some variation thereof,
over and over again rhetorically to cover up unjust budget and tax
policies that hurt children in today’s sermon entitled, “A Nation and
Century Defining Time: Where is America Going?”
“Our nation’s moral compass needs resetting,” said Edelman. “If you
believe it’s all right for our leaders to impose budget cuts on poor
children in order to give massive tax breaks and subsidies to
millionaires and powerful corporations, then stay home and don’t vote.
There are some big weasels eating away at America’s Constitution and
eating away at America’s professed values of freedom and justice. Unless
we name them, challenge them, and pluck them out, they will destroy our
nation’s soul and children’s future.”
