The son of Marion Barry, the colorful Washington, D.C., mayor who passed away earlier this month, is doing a bang-up job of hewing to his father’s legacy.
Marion Christopher Barry, who’s currently running for election to the D.C. city council, turned himself in at a police station Wednesday morning over charges that he threw a metal trashcan at a teller window and broke a security camera in the process.
After a local bank teller told him last week he couldn’t withdraw cash, Barry said, according to the police report: “You always give me a hard time. I’m going to have someone waiting for you when you get off, you b****.”
The former mayor’s progeny proceeded to throw a metal trashcan over the teller window, hitting the security camera and incurring said charges.
The younger Barry isn’t just following his dad to court again (Barry père went to federal prison on drug charges): He’s actually running for the seat his father held until his death.
The younger Barry is currently on probation following multiple drug-related charges. In a Facebook post, the District scion apologized for the incident and said he is “committed to rise up and carry the torch in my father’s legacy.”
The special election in which he’s running is scheduled for April.
