The Marriott and Me

I’ve now had several emails along the lines of this one:

I was at a Marriott in Fayetteville , NC over the weekend and when using the public computer in the lobby tried to enter Steynonline.com thru Drudge. Something called “Site manager” or something like that blocked me because of the word hatemonger.

Well, that word certainly appears on my site, in an ad for Ezra Levant’s new book on our battles for free speech in Canada. But it’s not “Site manager,” but something called “SiteCoach”, according to this reader — er, non-reader:

I am in a Courtyard by Marriott in Mount Pleasant SC.  My wife was sleeping in today and so I went down to the lobby and was looking around the internet. .. I checked a bit of sports and then I typed in http://www.steynonline.com and received this:

“Sitecoach Content Filter Access Denied

SiteCoach thinks the website contains content harmful to a young public.

The page was blocked

Reason: Forbidden Keyword: Hatemongers!”

SiteCoach had a place to comment so I did.  I also intend to comment to the management of this hotel….  Sorry I am an old economics professor so a “screen capture” of the page was beyond my abilities.

Gee. I dunno what I did to fall afoul of Marriott. When in Washington, I usually stay at their Mayflower Hotel. It may be time to rethink that.
