Massachusetts has given up on its old method of enrolling people in Obamacare, at least when it comes to getting purchasers’ information to insurers.
Bay State Health Connector is no longer using the 834 forms to help residents enroll in insurance and is instead looking for another system, what spokesman Jason Lefferts called “an alternative pathway” to enrollment.
A week ago, a spokesman for the exchange said that portions of the enrollment system were not automated. The exchange has had to send data to insurers manually to determine if consumers were eligible for premium subsidies.
The deadline to sign up for coverage beginning on January 1 has not been changed. In order to obtain coverage by then, Bay Staters will have to sign up by December 23. Though the exchange has received almost 35,000 applications, only 1,993 people have selected insurance plans.
