Matalin: ‘There’s No Republican Romeo’

On ABC’s This Week Republican strategist Mary Matalin took on the seeming despair among some conservative pundits over Rick Perry’s recent stumbles.

“The old adage is ‘Democrats fall in love and Republicans fall in line,’” Matalin said. Conservatives had invested much in the idea of Perry injecting vitality to a weak Republican field. But once he became the frontrunner, he was subject to the same scrutiny as other leading Republican candidates — and his imperfections emerged. But Republicans should get over their puppy love, she said, and realize that no candidate is going to be perfect. The important thing is that they can beat President Obama.

“There’s no Republican Romeo,” Matalin said.
