Matt Franck on the Iowa Supreme Court’s Imposition of Gay Marriage

And while you’re at Bench Memos reading Ed’s not to be missed series, you’ll also notice Matt Franck’s post, alerting readers to his excellent essay today in Public Discourse on the Iowa gay-marriage case (also flagged in the NRO web briefing). As Matt puts it in just one of several memorable passages, what Iowa’s Supreme Court has done “speaks volumes about the extent to which American judicial power, having burst free of all constraints, is now in the grip of a banal routinization of tyranny so complete that the tyrants do not recognize their own character as they blandly overturn many centuries of civilization in a day’s work.”
