The Corner

Matthew 5:44

I don’t have much to add to what’s been said. One hard-left site even blamed me (or CIS, anyway) for the attack on Rep. Giffords, though evidently that was too absurd even for them, and they subsequently edited their posting (here’s the original cached version). And when Jane FondaJane Fonda — accuses someone else of inciting violence, you know the left has gone off the tracks.

In fact, I think a certain equanimity is called for by those of us being targeted by the deranged left. Soberly pointing out the hypocrisy of the left and its media outlets (as Byron York, for instance, has done) is necessary. But beyond that, I think Stacy McCain’s blog sidekick Smitty hit the nail on the head:

Instead of getting all bent out of shape, the way the Usual Suspects want you to, instead, consider offering detailed, sincere forgiveness.

We should both pray for recovery for the wounded, justice for the perpetrator(s), and forgiveness for those whose remarks linking anyone Conservatives or Tea Partiers to the shooting are as unhinged as the shooter himself.

While not ethically required, going that route is an improvement, morally speaking, as it halts the slide into becoming as shrill and unbearable as Westboro Baptist Church.

Forgiveness is powerful: employ it.

Or, as our Rabbi has said, “Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.”
