The Corner

Maximum Leader

I overheard this CNN interview with former Democratic senator Max Cleland at the airport yesterday morning and couldn’t believe my ears, but I just checked the transcript:

BLITZER: I want to get to your strategy in a moment, but was this a just trial? Does Saddam Hussein deserve to die, now being convicted for crimes against humanity?

CLELAND: I have no idea. I wasn’t there.

He rambled on, of course, and used the question (and indeed the whole interview) as an occasion for making partisan attacks. But this particular question was a softball and Cleland whiffed.
