McAuliffe Struggles with the Details

Virginia gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe’s interview with the Virginian-Pilot is attracting some attention, in particular for his difficulty furnishing some pertinent details about the structure and mechanics of his state’s government:

McAuliffe wouldn’t give specific responses when asked about technical aspects of legislative and governor’s office operations. Asked if he could name the positions in the governor’s Cabinet, for instance, McAuliffe said: “Maybe could, maybe couldn’t. That’s not what I’m going to do here today because that’s not what I’m talking about.”

According to the Pilot, McAuliffe called those “gotcha” questions and said that Virginians are concerned instead with “kitchen-table issues.”

Perhaps McAuliffe should sit down with Steve Kroft instead.
