Senator John McCain strongly disagreed with General Dempsey’s testimony before the Senate Armed Services Committee this morning, in which the general stated that the military did everything it could to protect the Americans who came under attack in Benghazi on September 11th. “For you to testify before this committee that there were that there were [actions] consistent with threat assessments is simply false,” McCain said. “What would have been an inappropriate response, since no forces arrived there until well after these murders took place.”
The senator explained, “We could have had aircraft and other capabilities as short a distance away as Souda Bay, Crete…Obviously, your capabilities allowed you to be positioned to intervene very shortly.”
