The Washington Post lectures him:
He bemoaned the “common and systematic abuse of our federal courts by the people we entrust with judicial power,” adding, “Assured of lifetime tenures, these judges show little regard for the authority of the president, the Congress, and the states. They display even less interest in the will of the people.” Some judges have overstepped their bounds in some cases, but Mr. McCain’s language was unnecessarily incendiary and fundamentally inaccurate.
The Post’s argument consists entirely of two points: first, that Republicans have appointed a lot of today’s judges, which is a non sequitur; and second, that Clinton’s nominees “were, for the most part, a relatively moderate bunch,” an unsupported assertion that, even if true, would not necessarily be relevant to McCain’s contention (since he isn’t aiming for the judicial imposition of putatively moderate policies).
