McCain Mum on DADT, For Now

As he emerged from Leader McConnell’s office this afternoon alongside Sen. Lindsey Graham (R., S.C.), Sen. John McCain (R., Ariz.) told NRO that he “doesn’t think anything” about the House’s move today to take up a standalone vote on ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.’

For now, McCain said, things are in the hands of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D., Nev.). He would not say how he’d react if Reid brought up the measure this week, calling it a “hypothetical” that he’d address only if became a lame-duck issue for the upper-chamber. With the clock ticking, the Senate calendar is increasingly cramped.

“The House is going to take whatever action they want to take,” McCain said. In the Senate, it’s “up to the majority leader.”
