In an appearance on NBC’s Meet the Press, Missouri senator Claire McCaskill said she feels “almost sorry” for John Boehner because he is subject to pressure from an extreme wing of the Republican Party, represented by Grover Norquist, that is opposed to raising tax rates. Boehner must decide, said McCaskill, “is his speakership more important, or is the country more important?”
