McClatchy: Incompetence or Malfeasance?

The folks over at Powerline have been doing yeoman’s work seeking proof or correction for numerous newspaper accounts that suggested tea-party protesters shouted racial epithets at black congressmen. The latest exchanges are here, but the whole series is worth reading.

McClatchy likes to say their motto is “speaking truth to power.” Certainly, it is valuable for journalists to keep government and industry honest. But what about journalists themselves? It is ridiculous that so many in the media believe they should be immune to questioning and independent investigation, especially as outfits like McClatchy increasing replace integrity with politics.
