According to media reports, the actor Matthew McConaughey is going to be a dad. The actor and his girlfriend, Brazilian model Camila Alves, are expecting a baby. That development would not normally merit much comment. But what does, is what McConaughey wrote on his web site about the news:
Got some blessed news . a celebration of life and bounty . a newborn conceived . yes, my girlfriend Camila and I made a baby together. It’s three months grown in her womb and all looks healthy and lively so far. We are stoked and wowed by this miracle of creation and this gift from God, and so excited for the adventure that will come in raising this child, being mother and a father, and shepherding him or her through this life.
Note well: McConaughey refers to his baby in the womb as a baby, not a fetus – and more than that, his child is “healthy and lively so far.” I wonder how this locution will go down in the militantly pro-abortion world of Hollywood, where the “right” to an abortion is sacrosanct. It’s also worth noting that McConaughey’s reference to his new child as a “miracle of creation and this gift from God.” Amen to all of that.
This announcement comes on a day when we learned that the number of abortions performed in the United States dropped to 1.2 million, the lowest level in more than 30 years.
