Following the Republican National Committee’s “autopsy” yesterday, Virginia governor Bob McDonnell urged the party’s leadership to look at the successes of Republican governors in order to understand how to appeal to voters on a national level. On Fox News this morning, McDonnell emphasized the governors’ “results-oriented conservatism” of balanced budgets, job creation, and education reforms as the best way to illustrate the party’s principles, highlight its triumphs, and distinguish it from the Democratic party.

“Let’s be honest: People want to know how much we care before they care how much we know,” McDonnell added, and encouraged Republicans to “appeal to people’s heart, and not just their head” without abandoning conservative principles.
