House Republican Conference chairman Cathy McMorris Rodgers gave the official Republican response to the State of the Union tonight, presenting the GOP alternative to President Obama’s policies.
“Tonight the president made more promises that sound good, but won’t solve the problems actually facing Americans,” McMorris Rodgers said. “So tonight I’d like to share a more hopeful, Republican vision, one that empowers you, not the government.”
Notably, McMorris Rodgers never mentioned the president or his signature health-care law during the speech. Instead, she focused on broader Republican solutions to the nation’s problems, championing free markets and the idea of entrusting the people to make their own decisions.
