The Corner

Meanwhile, Back in the Real World . . .

Whether or not America is a Muslim country, Mali certainly is. And, despite President Obama’s outreach, Muslim roots, Gitmo closing, support for Iranian nuke power, etc, etc, it seems to be business as usual for the Mahgreb branch of the jihad:

Al Qaeda Beheads British Hostage In Mali

In a statement issued Wednesday AQIM said: “The British captive was killed so that he, and with him the British state, may taste a tiny portion of what innocent Muslims taste every day at the hands of the Crusader and Jewish coalition to the east and to the west.”

Edwin Dyer was in Mali to attend the nomad cultural and music festival at Anderamboukane. An old producer of mine at the BBC used to go to that, and spend about two months every year in Mali recording local musicians. These aren’t events that attract your typical neocon Crusader. But so what? To their captors, they’re infidels, and that’s good enough.

(By the way, what do they mean by the Crusader and Jewish coalition “to the west”? Spain? Yorkshire? Minnesota?)
