Meanwhile, in Chernobyl…

New data reveals that so far only 56 people have died as a result of the Chernobyl incident (I distinctly remember the taboid Sun’s headline, “Atomic Death Blast”). That number is, however, expected to rise to 4000 as cancer sets in, according to computer models based on evidence from Japan. Mohammed El Baradei has pointed out that poverty and mental health problems pose a far greater threat to the affected communities than radiation. Nevertheless, this news was too good for Greenpeace, who, it seems, want many more deaths. It is also interesting that Greenpeace are quite happy to cast doubt on computer models when it suits them.
