You like war stories? I got war stories, and this is one of the best. I like it not only because of the heroism of our men on Guadalcanal, but also because it so well demonstrates the uncertainty of life, the degree to which vast events turn on the actions of a few brave people–including cooks and bottle washers–and how ridiculous it is for any of us, even brilliant pundits–to believe he can forecast the outcome of conflicts.
