I haven’t much to add to the fine commentary on the Corner about the shooting and its political aftermath. In short, I think we all know that Sarah Palin and the Tea Party movement are no more responsible for this weekend’s events than Jodie Foster, Robert De Niro, or Martin Scorsese was responsible for Hinckley’s attempt on Reagan’s life. Those who are seeking to capitalize on the shooting for political gain are guilty of the very poisoning of political discourse of which they accuse Palin.
To that end, Megyn Kelly’s interview with the Pima County sheriff is terrific. She gently gets the sheriff to admit that he has no evidence to back up his “political environment” theory for why the shooter did what he did, and she asks whether he is, in fact, doing exactly what he is accusing others of. His response, or lack thereof, is telling.
