The Mob (and NBC) vs. Megyn Kelly 

There are reports that Megyn Kelly is going to be ousted at NBC, over—what else? this is 2018–a Halloween costume segment. Kelly said it used to be okay to dress in black-face if you were portraying a specific character and shrugged off a controversy about a reality star dressing up as Diana Ross. She can legitimately be accused of being overly glib about the issue, given the disgraceful history, but if you watch the segment it was lively and good-natured:

Kelly apologized afterward, seemingly very sincerely. But this isn’t enough for the mob or for her NBC colleagues, who have been beating the drum against her on air. Obviously, there are other, deeper tensions here. Kelly has never seemed a comfortable fit at NBC—once she left Fox, people across the politician spectrum and at all sorts of publications began to relish the idea of taking her down. This would be a dumb—but telling—way for her career to end at NBC.
