The Meme That Won’t Die

Robert Reich’s latest deep thought is “Immigration: Could it solve Social Security, Medicare woes?” This is one of those notions that’s so dumb only a Berkeley professor could believe it. Fortunately, Andrew Biggs over at AEI’s blog bursts Reich’s balloon in a posting today: “The logic of saving Social Security through immigration, which makes sense at first glance, falls apart when you look at the details.” And my colleague Steve Camarota explained in great detail a few years back why immigration more generally just can’t make much difference in the aging of society.
