The National Park Service began putting up new barriers around the World War II Memorial on Monday morning after demonstrators removed the barricades during yesterday’s Million Veterans March.
The memorial has become a source of tension since the government shutdown began almost two weeks ago, leading to multiple instances of the barricades being taken down to allow veterans to visit the site, including by some members of Congress. During yesterday’s march, some of the participants transported the barricades to in front of the White House in an act of protest to the administration’s repeated efforts to block access to the open-air memorial.
