Another email, I can’t argue with:
Why are you surprised? Lord, yes, it’s a tearjerker for us men. And for good, ahem, conservative reasons. We men (most of us anyway) are constantly torn between our strong desire for fame, fortune, travel, etc. and our deep-seated need to get married, have children and be part of a family as well as, by extension, be a part of a community of friends and neighbors. Sometimes it’s very hard to see how much more important those latter things really are–you certainly don’t get a lot of pop cultural credit and support for those things, and certainly no magazine covers. So, to see that on the screen, to see the real truth: that the people around you do love you, and do need you and do admire you….well, that’s enough to bring any real man to his knees.
