..on 2nd inaugural addresses is worth checking out today for another reason today (see Jonah riffing off it on Wilson below): If only to scare the pants off yourself with these words from FDR’s second: “As intricacies of human relationships increase, so power to govern them must increase,” he said. He saw a “need to find through government the instrument of our united purpose to solve for the individual the ever-rising problems of a complex civilization.”

Thank God he didn’t get elected twice more…er…
