Mike Gallagher Passes on Wisconsin Senate Bid

Wisconsin GOP congressman Mike Gallagher announced on Friday that he won’t run for Senate in 2024:

Gallagher was a top recruit for Senate Republicans, but a 2024 campaign against incumbent Democrat Tammy Baldwin makes little sense for him. As Gallagher notes in his statement, he’s focused on an issue of vital importance — the threat from Communist China — as chairman of a select House committee. And it will be tough for anyone to beat Baldwin. In the 2018 “blue wave,” Democrat Tony Evers defeated incumbent GOP governor Scott Walker by just one point, while Baldwin won reelection by eleven points.
