Milwaukee Sheriff David Clarke: ‘Empty Rhetoric’ from Holder, Obama After Ferguson Cop Shooting

Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke accused President Obama and Attorney General Eric Holder of “empty rhetoric” in the wake of the Ferguson cop shootings, saying their actions “fuel this cop hatred.”

Following the shooting of two Ferguson police officers during a Wednesday night protest in the Missouri town, both Obama and Holder expressed their outrage. Holder called the still-at-large shooter a “damn thug” in a press conference, while the president tweeted out that “violence against police is unacceptable.”

“This war on our nation’s finest, the American police officer, continues,” Clarke told Fox News’s Neil Cavuto on Thursday. “But it continues to be fueled by some very important people.”

“I think it’s empty rhetoric, what Eric Holder offered today, and the president — through a tweet, of all things — when they have, now, an obligation to stand up and remind people in these urban ghettos, these American ghettos, that they have a responsibility to comply with law enforcement officer commands,” he continued. 

Clarke said that the White House’s actions – including last week’s release of a report accusing the Ferguson police department of racially-motivated injustices – ”continues to fuel this cop hatred, this anti-police sentiment, that’s going on in America. That used to be underground. We haven’t seen these types of assaults on the institution of policing since the turbulent 60s.”
