McConnell is an institutionalist, so I doubt he’s pleased by the elimination of the filibuster for Supreme Court justices, but he’s been a major architect of the amazing swing from Garland to Gorsuch (of course, the election made the biggest difference). He maintained the blockade of Garland, which was a move that had its risks, and kept his party united behind it. And now he has shepherded Gorsuch to the cusp of confirmation. His performance shows the advantage of knowing what you’re doing, and pursuing a strategic goal through canny and well-considered tactics. Congratulations.
