Mitt Romney Pays Tribute to Meat Loaf, His One-Time Duet Partner

Grammy Award-winning artist and actor Meat Loaf passed away on Thursday, the singer was 74-years-old and had recently boasted that he would be recording and releasing a new album imminently.

“Our hearts are broken to announce that the incomparable Meat Loaf passed away tonight surrounded by his wife Deborah, daughters Pearl and Amanda and close friends,” reads a post on his Facebook page.

Bat Out of Hell, his first studio album, is one of the best-selling albums of all-time, with over 44 million copies sold worldwide. In total, Meat Loaf, born Marvin Lee Aday, has sold in excess of 100 million albums to date. He also appeared in films such as the The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Fight Club.

Among his most recognizable hits are “I’d Do Anything For Love,” “Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad,” and the three-songs-in-one, perfect-for-chewing-up-time-on-a-road-trip “Paradise by the Dashboard Light.”

But for those who followed the 2012 election closely, he’ll always be remembered for his somewhat awkward, but wholly beautiful rendition of “America the Beautiful,” performed by Mitt Romney’s side.

Rest in peace, Meat Loaf. You were truly one of a kind.
