The Corner

Moms, Diamonds & Politics

From e-mailer Steve:

I’m catching up on the Corner at work, and you caused me to blow my cover by laughing out loud!

Too true about baseball and political loyalties. I grew up in a die-hard Dem family in the Bay Area, rooting for the Rickey Henderson Oakland A’s. When my brother decided he was an SF Giants man, my mother quickly came around and bought him a team hat.

She has never, however, forgiven me for becoming a Republican. I pointed out once that it is convenient to have a single animal mascot for one’s sporting and political needs — fewer T-shirts to deal with. Maybe when her teams start winning I’ll get birthday presents again.
