MONTANA: “BY 11:00, WE’LL KNOW WHETHER WHE ARE HEADED FOR A RECOUNT.”

Just got off the phone with an official with the Conrad Burns campaign in Montana.  The watchword there seems to be caution — nobody is making any big claims. They feel they are “at least even” with Jon Tester in early voting, and believe that the momentum for Burns picked up by polls last week has continued through Election Day.  As for today’s results, the source says, “it’s anyone’s guess.”  Early voting and absentee voting results are expected to be released somewhere in the 8:30 to 9:00 p.m. Mountain Time period.  Then there will be more waiting.  “I expect that by 11:00 or so tonight [Mountain Time], we’ll know whether we are headed for a recount,” the source says.  “In 2000, it was 2:30 in the morning before we knew.”
