The Mood Out There, Cont’d

So many emails like this:

 Jonah

I agree that the mood is more anti-establishment.  Establishment Republicans have been saying for years that squishy or RINO candidates are the best we can do in a given state or district.  They gave us Bob Dole and John McCain for President… Arlen Specter, Lincoln Chafee, and the Maine twins.  They told us that a Republican could never win in Massachusetts which everyone knows is true…. except…..

Maybe O’Donnell won’t win in Delaware. Maybe she isn’t a good candidate.  I’m in Georgia and haven’t followed it very closely.  But it is clear the establishment Republicans have been aiming too low for years.  The Tea Party is leading the way to take the risk, aim higher and actually testing the limits of what is possible rather than settling for mediocrity. Occasionally they will miss but aiming low gave us too many squishy Republicans and the ridiculous (or so it seemed until the Democrats redefined ridiculous) overspending of the last Republican congress.

It seems that now there is a huge jump in the number of true conservative Republicans on the ballot, committed to their conservative credos and even better, they are prepared and able to make a defense of them.  That is driving the enthusiasm of Republicans; it seems to me some establishment Republicans are worried more about their loss of power or influence in the party than about the potential for reining in Washington, be it Democrat or Republican.

And even if you think she (or any candidate) can’t win, don’t announce it the country. (Karl Rove!!)  Wait for things to settle down a bit and see how it shakes out.  Dumping on her immediately is dumping on the people who nominated her.  Establishment Republicans who do so prove themselves to be establishment first and Republicans second.

The base is tired of establishment R’s serving up junk and telling us to like it.  Rather than make the case for Castle, they said he was the only electable Republican.  We’re seen too many unelectables become winners to buy into that anymore.  That’s why I believe Castle was rejected in favor or O’Donnell.
