The Corner

More C-to-E

From a reader:

The claymation California Rasins had an EXTREMELY short-lived Saturday morning Kid’s show.

And:

It’s not exactly the same thing, but Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer was an advertising creation—a pitch for Montgomery Ward .

And can we forget that fabulous movie “The Steeler and the Pittsburgh Kid” based on the Mean Joe Greene coke commercial?

Update: I’ve now been informed that “We’ve Only Just Begun” was a jingle for Crocker bank. From one of many readers:

“The Carpenters song “We’ve only just begun”, was originally a

commercial for a bank. I think it was Bank of America.”

True, except the bank was called Crocker Bank which was a California

institution back in the 60′s and 70′s.  The bank commercial featured a

young couple marrying with a few lines of “We’ve Only Just Begun”

playing in the background.  The commercial score was written by the

diminutive writer Paul Williams.  Richard Carpenter saw the commercial

and contacted Williams regarding a full length version.  Williams told

him one existed then frantically worked to finish it before meeting with

Carpenter.
