More Depressing News for the GOP

Just when you thought things were getting better, a new Gallup survey shows that Republicans lead on the generic congressional ballot among independents by only 22 points. What accounts for this disappointing result? I’m guessing it’s over-determined. Surely, the baleful influence of talk radio is at work, and the party’s rigid ideological conformity, and its inability to speak to voters outside the South. The party may also already be experiencing the turbulence of its much-anticipated “civil war.” I look forward to reading Frank Rich on Sunday for a more fully fleshed-out explanation for this ongoing Republican debacle.
