It is quite possible that the Ohio house will also flip to the Democrats. However, the persistently Red states still have some news to make. It looks like both legislative chambers in Tennessee have been captured by the GOP, as has the Oklahoma Senate. Republicans eked out some gains in other states, including my own North Carolina (and I do mean “eke”). I’ll have more details on the state-office outcomes tomorrow on NRO.
As for ballot initiatives, conservatives are seeing some successes tonight. Arizona has a couple of key anti-tax measures. In North Carolina, there were tax increases on the ballot in 16 counties. All failed.
Unfortunately, right-to-work and payroll-protection measures appear to have failed in Colorado. But other bad measures have also failed there, including tax hikes. The racial-preference ban remains up in the air. A big tax-repeal is still possible in Maine, as is a reaffirmation of Nevada’s eminent-domain reform.
The health of conservatism and the success of certain GOP candidates are not the same thing.
