Obama’s opening statement was curiously lacking specific details that might explain to the ordinary American how the recovery package is supposed to work. By contrast, his response to that first question about why Treasury needs the authority to takeover and restructure certain firms was very good — even if I’m still leery of giving away such authority. More explanation along those lines would probably help politically.
