His campaign literature, signs, etc. omitted the ‘for’ because by leaving it out, some people might think he was already a congressman (Smith for Congress vs. Smith-U.S. Congress). I don’t know if this is common, but if it is, it seems that it can only work at a local level where people may not know their representatives. It didn’t work for the guy I met.”
