In addition to the fact that Tom Ridge is, at best, a moderate, you guys should be hitting him on his stint at DHS. It wasn’t disastrous, but he was given a chance to prove his executive leadership (the first secretary of a new agency!), and showed himself to be nothing special. DHS has improved by leaps and bounds under Chertoff.
It’s not just that Ridge is a moderate; it’s that we’ve seen him at the federal level and didn’t much like what we saw. If he couldn’t be a great leader at DHS, why would McCain want him to be president if the unthinkable occurred? In short: After he resigned from DHS, was there anyone in Washington desperately wanting Tom Ridge back?
