King County Executive Ron Sims held a news conference this morning to release his Election Department’s report on the 2004 election. Among Sims’ amazing claims was that the election’s accuracy rate, which he declared to be “99.98% “, was one “that any bank would envy”. When pressed to explain how he came up with the 99.98% figure, it was revealed that his numbers actually imputed a 99.8% accuracy. Of course, any bank that was only 99.8% accurate would be off by $2 per $1,000. Good enough for Sims idea of government work, perhaps, but not for any bank that I’ve ever heard of.
