More on Voter I.D.

Not everyone likes my comparison between voting and activities that require identification:

It would be churlish of me to point out that, unlike voting, buying beer and boarding airplanes aren’t rights guaranteed under the constitution, so I won’t.

Not churlish at all — but not exactly right, either. Try buying a gun or entering the Capitol to petition your Congressman for a redress of grievances without a valid I.D. card. If you plan to assemble a large crowd on the National Mall to demonstrate against the ethanol mandate, you won’t need an I.D. to apply for the permit, but the National Parks Service tells me that you’ll still need one to enter the building where you drop it off.
