“Most Voters Are Worried About Immigration”

That’s what you wrote, John O’Sullivan. And you’re just wrong. There’s no two ways about it. There is no evidence to support that contention. Even the most quoted poll on the subject by restrictionists — Mark Krikorian mentioned it in his peculiar post suggesting that Prop 187 was actually a triumph rather than a disaster for the restrictionist cause — only gets immigration as high as 29 percent and only when voters are specifically prompted on the matter. As I said yesterday, when politicians decide to make immigration restriction a major aspect of their campaigns and win elections that way, then immigration restriction will emerge as a electoral issue. Until that happens, your assertion will remain only an assertion.
