Mr. President, We Cannot Allow a Crabmeat Gap!

The Feinstein-Craig amnesty for illegal-alien farmworkers may have been removed from the Senate version of the Iraq supplemental spending bill, but the provision to increase the number of visas for non-agricultural seasonal workers (H-2B visas) — doing all those mythical “jobs Americans won’t do” — is still in there, and could result in as many as 400,000 annual visas within a few years. The funniest comment on this was from Barbara Mikulski, who’s pushing the measure; she warned last week that if her amendment wasn’t passed, “it could be the end of crab meat.” (Some H-2B workers pick meat out of the few crabs left in the Chesapeake Bay.)
