“Paula Deen and her ilk” will now have a position of authority to enforce voting laws following the Supreme Court’s ruling this morning, says one MSNBC contributor. Deen, a celebrity chef, came under fire last week after she admitted to using racial epithets in the past and was let go from the Food Network.

After host Martin Bashir laughed off the “nonsense” that the United States is in a post-racial era, Georgetown professor Michael Eric Dyson brought up Deen and said she is “symbolic representative of an outlook and a perspective that is not yet died, that is not yet settled into the dust.”

“We’re supposed to trust the Paula Deens of the world to make sure” voting laws are enforced in states previously under the act’s supervision,” Dyson threatened.
