My Apologies to the House of Orange

From a reader, commenting on my question, on Uncommon Knowledge today, for Prime Minister Howard:

It seems to me unfair to equate the Netherlands with Belgium.  True, the Dutch did not send forces to depose Saddam. But quite unlike the Belgians they formally supported the effort and joined the multinational coalition. Even the leader of the Dutch socialist party supported this, saying that while everyone knew he was against the war, the Dutch should stand by their American friends. After Saddam was gone the Dutch –quite unlike the Belgians– sent forces to Iraq for the occupation.

Today, the Dutch have combat forces in southern Afghanistan, again unlike the Belgians (or the Germans, Italians, or French, for that matter).

In short, the Belgians have been nothing but ingrates in recent years. The Dutch have been pretty loyal allies.
