‘My Husband Can’t Do This Alone’

That’s Michelle Obama’s campaign-trail message, from her Wisconsin speech for Russ Feingold today. Mrs. Obama reminds us that her husband told us change would be hard, so don’t give up. The thing that she is missing is that there are Americans today — some who did get swept up in election night like she did, a memory she recalls in her speech — who see what that change is and don’t like it. Sure, they agree that every kid deserves an education and every sick person health care. But they also know that the government providing everything isn’t sustainable. So it’s not that Americans are lazy or quitters. It’s that they know her husband’s “change” is not sustainable.
